Darryl Lee Henry

Darryl Henry was born in Mankato, Minnesota on August 5, 1942 at Immanuel Hospital. He attended Franklin Elementary School through the 10th grade then went to Mankato High School, graduating in June of 1960. After graduating from High School he entered the Navy; graduating from boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval training Center in Illinois in September of 1960. After boot camp He was sent to Memphis, Tennessee and attended the Aviation Metal Smith School until February of 1961 at which time he was transferred to NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. During that time Darryl married his High School Sweetheart, Albina (Bea) Bergstrom. Darryl and Bea were married on October 15, 1961. Almost two years later, in September of 1963, while Bea remained in the states, Darryl was deployed with the VR-21 DET to Atsugi, Japan. From there he would be sent to the Philippines and Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was deployed back and forth between Japan and the Philippines and Vietnam from August of 1964 - February of 1967. Darryl's final station was at Lemoore Naval Air Station where he was assigned to security and investigations until August of 1971. The navy sent him to the academy during his last months of service.

When he got out of the Navy on August 2, 1971 he went to work for the Kings County Sheriff’s office the very next day. He patrolled as a deputy for 5 years, spending 14 months on patrol in Avenal, and the rest of the time in Hanford. He served as a detective for 10 years, was promoted to Lieutenant, and finally retired as a Captain of the jail in August 1996.

After several years following Bea's death Darryl fell in love once again and married Phyllis Riddle on July 9, 2011.

He was an avid golfer as a member of Kings Country Club for many years. He loved to travel and experience new places. He was an active member of Glad Tidings Church serving on the Board for several years and was involved in many of the church's building projects. Darryl loved his country, his community, and his God. But the thing that Darryl loved more than anything was his family, each and every one was very special to him.

Darryl was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Elaine Henry, 2 sisters Sharon and Linda, his wife Bea, and his son Greg. He is survived by 1 brother (Butch), 1 sister (Jill), one daughter Teresa and her husband Ray, daughter-in-law Linda, 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his wife Phyllis, and many friends. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Homeless Veterans / Veterans Association.

Services will be Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10 am at Glad Tidings Assembly of God with graveside to follow at Lemoore Cemetery.
