Dan was born on February 3, 1958 in Hanford, California, to Mon Q. “Buddy” Chin and Sylvia Charline (Weeks) Chin. As the youngest of four siblings, he is survived by one brother, Clifford Chin of Hanford; a sister, Sandra Dawson of Hanford; seven nieces; two nephews; and his Fiancé Laura Akers.
Dan Chin graduated from Hanford High School, College of the Sequoias, and Fresno State University earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Dan was the Manager of Buddy's Trophies and Advertising Specialties, originally opened for business by his late father Buddy Chin on March 1, 1960. Buddy’s Trophies remains one of the oldest trophy outlets in the San Joaquin Valley.
For many years Dan was very active in the community serving as: Chairman of the Hanford Christmas Parade Committee, a member of the Kings County Homecoming Committee, a member of the California Jaycees, and served as State President of the California Jaycees in 1989. He served 10 years on the Hanford Planning Commission, 2 years on the Hanford Elementary School Board, and 12 years on the Hanford City Council where he was elected Mayor for multiple terms.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Carnegie Museum Gardens from 2pm to 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that remembrances be sent to your favorite charity in his honor.
