Betty Caroline Hayes was born Sept 8, 1924 to Elsberry and Cora Hayes in Oklahoma. She was fourth of nine living children. She went to be with our Lord on January 30, 2015 at the age of 90 years after a short illness.
Her family moved to California when she was a teenager, and at age 17 she left home with her older sister, Mamie, to live in Hanford to work at the Ammunition Plant. She married Herman Wilkinson in 1942 giving birth to two children, James and Nancy. After marrying, she and Herman welcomed Mom’s sisters and brothers into their home whenever the kids needed a place to stay. She always worked hard on the farm, and later as a housekeeper in hotels and in hospitals in Hanford, Tulare and Portland, and as a cook at a college in Claremont. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, canning, hunting and fishing. She and her late husband, Edward Foles, remodeled several homes in Oregon and enjoyed traveling. Her last few years were spent here in Hanford being close to her sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsberry and Cora Hayes, late husband, Edward Foles, brothers Virgil, Raymond, Chester and sisters, Allie, and Bessie, and son-in-law, Lanny Perdue.
She is survived by her sisters, Mamie Shores, Alice Leach, and Eunice Newquist, all of Hanford, and by her two children, James Wilkinson (spouse Susan) of Sherman Oaks, CA and Nancy Perdue of San Antonio, TX. She is survived by her 4 grandchildren, Jeannie Becher-Wilkinson (spouse Tamara) of Beverly Hills, CA, Joshua Perdue (spouse Tracie) of Washburn, ND, Tim Wilkinson (spouse Karen) of Sherman Oaks, CA, and Kristen Perdue of San Antonio, TX. She is survived by 4 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Kyle, Liv and Zadie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews across the US.
A memorial will be held on February 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Grangeville Cemetery, 10428 14th Ave, Armona, CA.
