for they shall be comforted."
I would like to take a few moments to speak to you today about a very special man. This man was my dad, Albert Gonzales.
My dad Albert was born on June 25, 1952 in San Benito, TX and passed away on May 26, 2015 in Armona CA at the age of 62.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Lucio and Leonor Gonzales, brother; Robert Gonzales and first born son; Albert Gonzales Jr.
He is survived by his brothers; Lucio Gonzales Jr, John Gonzales, sisters; Angie Mercado, Maria Lerma, Yolanda Hinojos and Elena Pizana also his wife; Frances Gonzales, son; Andrew Gonzales and his wife Araceli, daughters; Marlene Marquez and Yvonne Avina and her husband Phillip, his grandchildren; Lily Moreno Gonzales, Andrew Gonazales, Evan Gonzales, Shawn Miller, Gizelle Marquez, Victoria Coronado, Jesus Coronado Jr., Briana Hernandez, Alexis Hernandez and Cherie Hernandez he also has eight great-grandchildren, he was loved by each and every one of them.
As I look back now, he wasn't just my father, but a teacher in my life as well! I always looked up to my dad; I tried to be just like him. Even at a young age I tried to learn his work ethic, he always worked hard; he modeled it for me too.
He would take me to work with him in his truck and I would try to follow him around while outside the truck, as he serviced equipment, I would even take along my lunch and eat it at the same time he did.
He would teach me about the farm equipment he would service as I began to take interest in farm equipment as well.
He would tell me about dirt bikes (motorcycles), which sparked an interest in me for motorcycles. He took me and my cousin Joey for the first time to the Huron Cycle Park sparking the interest in motorcycle racing.
He taught me to drive a truck; I later became a truck driver just like him.
When I got into ministry, he was proud. He would come to see me preach the word of God!
My dad married my mom Frances Gonzales on December 8, 1974 at the age of 22. He loved my momma and started a family, they’ve been married 40 years.
He always loved his family; he took great pride in his family, from his wife and kids to his parents and siblings. He also loved and was loved by many friends as well.
My dad Albert enjoyed music, “Oldies” to be specific. At times played them loudly to where everyone could hear. I remember growing up to "Oldies 92.9" on the dial constantly.
He also enjoyed a majority of worship music ranging from Third Day to Mercy Me. He loved the Lord, and listening to song's about the Lord.
I remember him sitting in church with tears rolling down his face. He would say that was all he could do in the presence of God.
One of his passions when he was still able to do it, was jogging. He could go out jogging for miles. Sometimes in the early morning while it was still dark, sometimes in the afternoon. He loved it! Doing push-ups and hitting the speed bag were also among the things he enjoyed. I have never known anyone who hit a speed bag with such rhythm and speed as my dad. He enjoyed football and back in the day, boxing.
Like I said earlier, he took pride in his family, his grandchildren and his professions.
He worked around trucks, farm equipment, welding shops and agriculture throughout his working years. He always took pride in his work.
Although I know he had his battles, my dad always told me to keep fighting mine! To never give up! Hold your head high mijo! I know that is what he would want me to do now.
Fight to get ahead!
Promise me, he would say Promise me!!
My dad will always live in my heart and in my memories.
The chains are broken now, and he rests in the arms of the Lord!
Amen.
