Willie Big Jit W. Green, Jr.

Willie worked as a mailman and postal supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service and retired on July 2, 1990 after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Cary's Baptist Church in Yorktown and longtime member of St. James United Methodist Church.

Willie was a graduate of Huntington High School. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be loved and remembered fondly by all of the lives he touched.

Willie was preceded in death by his father, Willie W. Green, Sr.; and mother, Ophelia Pope Green. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Louise R. Green; sons, Jeffrey H. Thaxton of Hampton, and Michael J. Green (Bianca) of Monterey, CA; daughters, Vanessa Thaxton-Ward (Richard) of Hampton, and Beverly T. Penn of Newport News; grandchildren, Ashley M. Penn (fiancé, Marcus Hart), Genesis Thaxton, Heru Ward, Mettima Ward, and Michelle Green; and great-grandchild, Justin Hart.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Willie's life will be held on Monday, March 18, at 10 am, at Cary's Baptist Church, 1615 Carys Chapel Rd., Yorktown, VA. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
