William H. "Bill" Overton, Jr., 89, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011. He was born in Martinsville, WV and was a resident of Newport News for 55 years. Mr. Overton served in the U.S. Navy as a First Lieutenant during WWII. He was employed by American Oil Company and retired in 1984. He was also a member of Newport News Baptist Church.
Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rachel C. Overton; sons, William H. Overton, III and wife, Rita and Roger A. Overton and wife, Sheri; grandchildren, Hunter Overton, Reagan Overton, Ian Overton, Jessica O. Craig, and Joseph Overton; great-grandchildren, Jayden Craig and Chase Craig; and sister, Elizabeth McAlpin.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Bill's life will be held on Tuesday, July 19, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
