William Campbell Baker, 84, passed away on March 23, 2022. Bill was raised in Newport News and was a graduate of Warwick High School. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering through the Co-op Program. He earned his Master of Science, Engineering Management from George Washington University in 1971. He worked for Teledyne Hastings Instruments from 1957 to 2011 where he held many positions that allowed him to pursue his passion for engineering and physics. Bill’s work included holding five patents with Fluid Flowmeter and Fluid Flow Measuring Apparatus. Bill was a strong man of faith who was very humble and was always “reasonable.” He was also an ardent Redskins fan.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Catherine Baker Russell (Tony); son William D. Baker (Billy); sister-in-law, Margaret Faith Lamb; granddaughter Chelsea Rae Russell; grandson, Campbell Alexander Russell. His wife of 60 years, Hope Baker precedes him in death.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2552 N. Armstead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666. A service will follow at 12:00 p.m.
