Tom was born September 1, 1944 in South Dakota and moved to Hampton, Virginia with his family in 1958. He graduated Hampton High School in the summer of 1963 and that fall married his love Donna Marie DeMeno, who preceded him in death in 1986. Tom met and was married to his second wife, Virginia (Marier) Sharp in 1989 until her death in 2004.
Tom was a skilled woodworker at the Cavalier Cabinet Shop until he made the decision to dedicate his life to being a Newport News police officer on January 17, 1972. He retired from the police force March 1, 2000. Tom was a beloved father to Carolyn (John) Campbell and Michelle Sharp; beloved Papaw to Trever (Rebekah) Sharp, Dylan (Hope) Campbell, and Miles (Sammie) Campbell; and treasured GGPa to Terra and Magnolia Sharp. Tom is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Esther Sharp, brother Oren Sharp, and sister Linda (Sharp) Bair; and is survived by his brother Alan Sharp, and many nephews and nieces.
A visitation (1:00pm) and Celebration of Life (2:00pm) will be held Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 250 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, Virginia. All are invited to join the procession to the interment immediately afterwards (3:00pm) at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia.
All are invited to wear casual "Hawaiian shirt" with khakis/jeans or happy colors to remember Tom's smile and sense of humor.
Flowers are welcomed and memorial gifts may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
