Russell was educated in the Greensville County public school system. He retired from the Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) formerly Newport News Shipyard after 45 years as a welder. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Emporia. Russell was an avid gardener and landscaper and even built a large fishing pond in his backyard. He was a “Jack-of-all-trades” and enjoyed antique automobiles.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Stewart and Maude Ethel Moody; son, Marquis Moody; and two brothers, Stewart Moody, Jr. and Leonard Moody. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Airminter Moody; son, Reginald Moody; two grandchildren, Darius Lassiter and Jayden Clouse; and two brothers, Orlandus Moody and Larry (Hilda) Moody.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, November 26, 2021 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666. The family will also receive friends 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the funeral home with a Celebration of Life service to begin at 2:00 PM with entombment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
