SGT MAJ Hafer completed 31 years in the military. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era from 1954 to 1957 and in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1985.
His military decorations included the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with OLC, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with OLC, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Staff Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
Ronald was preceded in death by his wife, Agnasan Hafer and parents, George and Geraldine Hafer. He is survived by daughter, Sheila Ann Bannister and husband, John R. Bannister, their daughter, Miranda, all of Hampton; son, Ronald G. Hafer, Jr. and wife, Cindy Hafer, their children, Joshua and Melanie, all of Fort Mill, S.C.; son, Raymond G. Hafer and wife, Dian Hafer and their children, Nick and Gabrielle; daughter, Starla Ann Marshall and husband, Kevin Marshall and their daughters, Veronica and Amber, all of Richmond, ME; and great-grandchildren, Jamie and Isabella of Hampton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Ronald’s life will be held on Sunday, June 8, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment with honors rendered by the U.S. Army Honor Guard will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
