Dale was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Smith; son, Brian Dale Lanier; grandson, Hunter Shapleigh; aunt, Becky Lanier Yates; and brother, Steve Yates. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 27 years, Doris A. Lanier; daughters, Crystal Shapleigh and husband Jason, and Shauna Strickland and husband Sean; grandchildren, Bradlee and Brian Shapleigh; mother, Kathryn Skipwith; brothers, John Burns, Mike Willis and wife O.J., and Shawn Yates and wife Tanya; sisters, Teresa Smith and husband, Harold, and Bobbie Moran-Henry and husband Frank; and uncle, Frank Yates.
