Robert Light Tilley Jr.

Robert Light Tilley, Jr., departed this life on Thursday, January 5, 2023. He was the son of Robert Light Tilley and Bernadine Therese Smyth and began his adventure on July 27, 1945, in Los Angeles, California. Robert’s dream was to join the US Marine Corps and he fulfilled that wish at the age of 17. While stationed in Quantico, Virginia, he met and chased after the love of his life, Carolyn Anita Jones. He then had a long career as a military barber at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk. Robert loved his football, being a lifelong Washington fan. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Warren Tilley. He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn Tilley; a brother, James Tilley, son, Matthew Tilley; daughters, Patricia Davison, and Lora Cochran. He also leaves memories for nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A visitation for Robert will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A celebration of life will occur Monday, January 9, 2023 at 6:00 PM, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A reception following the conclusion of services will occur Monday, January 9, 2023 at Family House, 601 Brentmeade Dr, Yorktown, VA 23693.
