He was a Hampton High School 1965 graduate and then spent three years in the Army, two of those years in Anchorage where he met his wife Sharon. They returned to VA where he worked in a cabinet shop and by 1980 he opened his own cabinet shop in Hampton and it is still going strong in the same location. Robert's son, Robby Jr., assumed the tradition of "custom cabinet building". The shop is run by his son, Robby and Sharon, Robert's best friend, "partner", and wife of 52 years. He retired in 2007 just after he finished building his daughter, Tonya's kitchen cabinets.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sharon; children,Tonya La Tona (Brian) and Robert Furr Jr. (Laura); sister, Brenda Buckingham (John); six grandchildren, Aaron La Tona Jr., Benjamin Furr, Hailey Potts (Chris), Bryan, Amaya, and Mateo; great-grandson, baby Augustus; and sister-in-law, Rita Furr.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelson W. and Dorothy Furr, and his brother, Jerry Furr.
A member of the Hampton Elk's Lodge for 18 years, he loved playing cards with his friends. He will be missed by many friends and family.
No services will be held. Robert's wishes were to spread his remains in Alaska on the Russian River where he fished with his family for many years and in the Florida Keys where he and Sharon went on many fishing trips.
