Rita's life began in Maine on July 14, 1924. In 1945, she met and married her husband Ken, who passed away in 2005. In her early years, she worked on Wall Street in New York City. After moving to Virginia, she worked for Civil Service at Fort Eustis for twenty years. After retiring in 1984, she and Ken loved to travel.
Rita was a long time and faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She volunteered for many years at Sentara’s CarePlex Hospital, and belonged to the Nocturnal Adoration Society, St. Jude’s Guild, Catholic Daughters, ESA Sorority and The Red Hat Society.
Rita was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, "Words with Friends," dancing and being at the beach.
Rita is survived by her son, Joe Goode and daughter, Molly Goode (Pat Nakao), both of Berkeley, CA, brother, Richard Manzo (Loretta) of Maine, and sister, Sister Mary Manzo of Montreal, Canada. She was beloved “Nonna” to grandchildren, Beth Balser (Ray), Jenny Ondo (John), Matthew Coleman (Kim), Nina Nakao and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Judson, Nicholas, Abbie, Kenny and Coleman. She was predeceased by her daughter, Ann R. Stone; parents, Emma and Joseph Manzo, and brothers Frank and Ernest Manzo.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church's food pantry.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, August 5th at 10:00 AM with a lunch reception to follow in the church hall. Graveside services will be private.
