Rachel Furlow Smith was born October 22, 1955 and departed this earth May 19th 2024, after a long battle with COPD. She was an only child and was raised by the late Delores Price and Jesse E. Price MD. Rachel graduated from high school in Yonkers, NY and continued her education at Utica University.
Rachel graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. While at college she pledged and became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Post graduation Rachel worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance and then started a career in advertising when she met her husband the late David Smith. From the union were born two daughters, Leah and Janel. After divorcing, Rachel focused on being a fierce Mother to her daughters and relocated to Altoona, Pennsylvania and later Virginia Beach, Virginia. While in Virginia, Rachel become and expert jewelry consultant for the Navy Exchange at Naval Air Station Oceana where she retired.
Rachel enjoyed spending time with friends, reading and discussing politics. In 2021 she became a grandmother to her first grandson whom she took pleasure in spending with. Rachel leaves behind to mourn, her daughters Leah (Ranen) Williams, Janel Bordley, her sister Jacqueline Davis and brother Donald (Ronnica) Price, and grandson Marco Rodriguez Junior along with many family and friends.
A visitation will take place on Saturday May 25, 2024 from 1-2 PM at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00 PM.
