Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Alice P. Wallace, and father, Paul Wallace, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty J. Wallace, son, Jonathan P. Wallace, daughter, Deborah L. Boone, grandsons, Jon-Paul "Kris" Wallace, Jacob Wallace, Cameron Wallace, granddaughters, Adriana "Nicki" Howard, Riley Boone, and Kaylee Boone, all of Hampton, grandson Matthew B. DeRousse of Poquoson, his second mom, Joyce C. Wallace of Yorktown, brother, Joseph B. Wallace of Nags Head, North Carolina, and sister Nora Ball (Brad) of Seaford.
Paul graduated from York High in 1964 and worked several sales jobs, most notably with Akers Beverage Company, prior to starting his trademark restaurant career. He was best known as "The Hot Dog Man" for owning and operating Fertitta's Hot Dogs in Hampton from 1984 - 2007 when he sold the business due to disability. During that time he also operated concessions at Buckroe Beach, Paul's Hot Dogs of Hampton, and Deno's Pizza of Hampton. Since retirement, he devoted his time to family, especially his grandchildren that he cared for daily. Although Paul had become confined to a wheelchair for the last years of his life and did not venture out much, he gave all he had to his family every day and he will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, January 4 at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Jason Cook of Danville, Virginia, followed by entombment at Parklawn Memorial Park.
