A native of Cana, Virginia, he worked for the Newport News Shipyard for 42 years as an electrician.
Parlie was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist church in Hampton and also a veteran member of the Masonic Lodge #336 for over 50 years.
Parlie was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, of 63 years; parents, Alonzo and Dorothy McCrary; grandchildren, Kristie McCrary and Joshua Gaulding; brothers, Clayton McCrary and Carlie McCrary; and sister, Lorraine Jones. He leaves behind two sons, Greg McCrary and Randall McCrary and wife Sandra; daughter, Kelly Bowman and husband Ronnie; grandchildren, Justin McCrary, Matthew Payne, and Jarad Payne; brothers, Clinton McCrary and wife Betty, and Glenn McCrary and wife Laura Lee; sister, Shirley McCrary King; sister-in-law, Dot Combs and husband Jack; brother-in-law, Wayne Schriest and wife Brenda; and Bill Jack Spencer and Mike Cavanaugh, who were like grandsons.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A celebration of Parlie’s life will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Hunt officiating. Interment will be at Parklawn Memorial Park.
