Nelson Eugene Thomas

Nelson Eugene Thomas, 71, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Coliseum Park Nursing Home. He was born in Newport News on January 18, 1940 to John F. Thomas and Iola Alley Thomas. Dicky served his country in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He retired from the Newport News Shipyard after 30 years of service in the Electrical Dept.

Dicky was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Dunaway Thomas, his parents, 3 sisters and a brother. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Blackburn; brother, Kenneth "Jake" Thomas; 5 nieces; 4 nephews; and Audrey Lipscomb, his dear friend and caregiver.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 2 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a celebration of Dicky's life to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

The family would like to thank the "A" wing at Coliseum Park Nursing Home for the loving care they gave Dicky.
