Mary Ruth Williams

Mary Ruth Williams, 92 of Newport News was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 28, 2015. A long time, faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Hampton, VA, she attended Riverside PACE where she loved spending time with the staff and participants. Her joy was cooking and loving her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wesley Slade, Sr., and Julia Blanche Slade; brother, Wesley Slade, Jr.; grandsons, Fred Fobbs and Bryant C. Williams; and daughter in law, Alice Williams.

Remaining to cherish her memories are her children, Raymond Williams, Jr., Shirley Christian, Arnold Williams, Loretta Johnson, Brenda Williams, Cassandra Williams, Tammy Williams, Kelvin (Mariah) Williams and Teresa (Mark) Robinson; sisters, Bernetta Bandy, Katherine (John) Agard, and Daisy Mitchell; brothers, Charles (Bernice) Slade, Alphonso Slade, Alfred (Brenda) Slade and Carl Slade; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 4, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church, 1647 Briarfield Road, Hampton, Virginia. A celebration of Mary's life will immediately follow. Interment will be at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
