Mary D. Holt, age 103 ½, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 7, 2012 at York Convalescent Center in Yorktown, VA. She was native of Lynchburg, VA and had been a resident of Yorktown for more than 20 years.
Mary retired after 40 years of service as a hairdresser. She attended St. Marks United Methodist Church in Hampton and was a member of College Hill Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA where she was a Sunday School teacher and Deaconess. She was also a member and past president of the Virginia Hairdressers Association.
Mary was preceded in rest by her husband, Harold H. Holt; parents, Thomas and Brentie Derflinger; four sisters; and one brother. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Black; granddaughters, Allison Brown, Andrea Evans, and Beth Bowers; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Blake Allen, Lawson, Clay, Luke, and Christian Evans, and Caden Bowers.
A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, September 11 at Fort Hill Memorial Cemetery in Lynchburg, VA with Rev. David Hampton officiating.
