Marion S. Hankinson, 86, formally of Hampton, died on Thursday, May 13, 2010. Born in Rocky Mount, NC on June 28, 1923, she spent much of her youth in Portsmouth. There she met and married her husband of 60 years, Eddie, who preceded her in death in 2005. She moved to Hampton as a newlywed in 1944. During her 64 years in Hampton, she was an active member of Hampton Baptist Church where she taught 3 year old children in Sunday School for many years.
Marion will be remembered for her natural gift and talent of playing the piano. She was an accompanist for many church activities and other organizations throughout her life. She was also a volunteer at the Hampton General Hospital for more than 20 years.
Marion is survived by her daughter, Jeanne LeFoe and husband Hunter of Williamston, NC; her grandson, Grant LeFoe of Charlotte, NC; her granddaughter, Lauren LeFoe of Wilmington, NC; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne S. Overman in 1995.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 16 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM. A celebration of Marion's life will be held on Monday, May 17 at 11 AM at Hampton Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Dr. Chester Brown and Rev. Dr. Charles R. Smith. The family will receive friends following the service in the Dorothy Lee and Francis W. Jones Fellowship Hall at the church.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Hankinson Memorial Music Endowment Fund of Hampton Baptist Church.
