Marcia Walker (aka “Hopie”, to family and friends) lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease on January 24, 2023, at the age of 68, at Old Dominion Rehabilitation and Nursing facility, in Newport News, Virginia.
Marcia is survived by: her siblings (Donovan Drummond, Sandra Drummond and Sharon Drummond-Brown) and her uncle/aunt Mr. and Mrs. Basil Drummond. She also has several nieces and nephews. Marcia is preceded by; her husband (Charles Walker), her parents (Elwin and Kathleen Drummond) and her brothers (Rendell Allen, Milton Drummond and Neville Drummond).
Marcia was born in Kingston, Jamaica on December 3, 1954 to Elwin and Kathleen Drummond. She graduated from Merl Grove High School in 1971, located in Kingston, Jamaica. Marcia immigrated to the United States in 1974 and later attended the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), in New York, New York, where she achieved an Associate Degree in 1984. While pursuing her degree at BMCC, she met her husband Charles Walker and they got married in September 1984. Marcia worked in the banking industry for over 25 years, as a teller and bank manager, in the City of New York.
Marcia was an extremely gracious, generous and caring person. She was always there to show support as a devoted family member and friend. She loved to travel with her husband Charles and they enjoyed life. Unfortunately, Charles died in September 2007 leaving Marcia a widow.
Over the last few years, it was painful for my family and I to witness Marcia lose her memory. Even though she may have forgotten our names, she never forgot the lyrics and always showed a deep connection to reggae music (of the 90’s), to likes of Berres Hammond and Buju Banton. Whenever reggae music came on, she would get up and dance. Personally, I will miss her infectious laugh and smile.
The family takes solace in knowing that she will not be alone in heaven. We will miss her dearly.
May her soul rest in peace!
A public visitation for Marcia will be held Friday, February 3, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. Following the public visitation will be a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
