Kevin served in the U. S. Coast Guard from 1975 until 1995, retiring in York County, VA as a Petty Officer First Class (quartermaster). He was stationed on several ships in Portsmouth, VA, as an instructor at Yorktown, VA, and at USCG Headquarters in Washington, DC; he received numerous commendations, medals, and awards during his twenty-year career.
Kevin was born in Glen Ridge, N.J., the eldest son of his predeceased parents: Raymond and Barbara (Ware Knight) Connors of NJ. Mr. Connors married Vickie (Connelley) in Portsmouth, VA in 1976; his family included two predeceased sons: Matthew (1977-1996) and David (1978-2017), of Poquoson, VA. He is survived by his former spouse, Vickie Connors, his daughter-in-law, Kelly Dearing (Tim) and his grandchildren: Adeline and Matthew Connors; Samantha, Kaya, and Easton Dearing of Mechanicsville, VA; and by his four younger sisters: Kathleen Barbieri (Scott) of SC, Mary Doherty (Brian) of NJ, Barbara "Bonnie" Fraser (Paul) of CT and Patricia Dunn of GA.
Kevin lived to participate in sports, playing on several basketball and softball teams. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and spending time in the mountains and the beach in the Outer Banks, NC. He helped Vickie establish her farm in King and Queen County in 2000 where he spent many hours on his tractor and mowers, enjoying the rural life style with their dogs and horses. He shared his passion for fishing and traveling with his grandchildren.
During his final six months, Kevin was cared for by the Williamsburg AMEDISYS Hospice Team in his Little Plymouth home, with his last two days spent in the wonderful Hospice House of Williamsburg.
An inurnment memorial service with full Military honors on March 4 at 1pm will be held at the Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, VA.
