Julie Kay Stanley, Col USAF (Ret.), 55, a native of Muncie, Indiana and five year resident of Hampton and also Ferrum, Virginia, passed away at Riverside Hospital in Newport News on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.
She served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Colonel after 24 years and receiving numerous medals and awards, including: the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oakleaf clusters and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. She served as President of the Buckroe by the Bay Kiwanis (2009-2010); graduate of the Army War College in 2000 and the Air Command and Staff College in 1995.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents William V., Jr. and Delores Wallace.
Julie leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 23 years James L. Stanley, Jr., Col USAF (Ret.); two sons, Brian D. Stanley and his wife Cristy and Ronald E. King; three daughters, Wendy K. Knotts and her husband Andy, Nicole N. Schreiner and her husband Robert and Ashley K. Stanley; four grandchildren, Hayley N. Schreiner, Taylor A. Schreiner, Nathaniel P. Schreiner and Peyton J. Stanley; two brothers, William A. Wallace and his wife Kathy and Derek B. Wallace and his wife Darlene; sister, Cynthia D. Wallace; Father and mother-in-law James L., Sr. and Agnes P. Stanley.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 2, from 1 to 3 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A Celebration of Julie's life will be held Friday evening, July 2, at 6 PM, at the Langley Air Force Base Main Chapel. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery September 22, 2010 at 9 AM with full military honors.
