Joyce was born in Abbeville, Georgia to Jesse Ruel Daniels and Nina Lowie Daniels on August 1, 1933. Her mother Nina died when she was two years old and she was raised by her grandparents, Stephen and Rosa Daniels. Joyce attended school in Abbeville and was Valedictorian of her high school class in 1950. Following graduation she began working as a secretary for the Church of God at their headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee. She was quickly promoted to supervisor of the merchandising department. After three years, she decided to return to Georgia and while working at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA for the Public Information Officer & Personnel Services she met her husband, George and they were married on December 5, 1953.
Following their wedding, they moved to Wiesbaden, Germany where George was stationed. While in Wiesbaden, Joyce worked as a secretary for Deputy Chief of Staff Intelligence! Installations. She accompanied George on eight different moves throughout their marriage. After starting a family, Joyce became a homemaker devoted to her three children, and she loved to travel, enjoyed gardening, reading and genealogy, and for many years delivered meals to the elderly for Meals on Wheels.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister to her family. She is survived by her husband George of Ft. Monroe, VA, and three children, Cheryl (Mark) Chafee of Gordonsville, VA; Valerie (Andre) Van Bergeijk of Indianapolis, IN; and Stephen (Ann) Smith of Yorktown, VA. She leaves her cherished nine grandchildren and is also survived by sisters Martha Loyce Wynn, Beverly Bentley, and brother Tony Daniels all of Georgia.
A memorial service is scheduled for January 7th at 11 a.m at the Perry United Methodist Church in Perry, Georgia. A graveside service and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels.
