Josephine Parker (Garnett) Gurley

Josephine Parker (Garnett) Gurley, age 83, of Newport News, Virginia passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Josephine was a native of Tappahannock, Virginia. She graduated from West Point High School in 1958, and went on to serve on her class' alumni organization. She was a resident of Newport News, Virginia for 38 years and member of First Friends Church in Hampton, Virginia. She worked as a meat packer at the A&P for over 25 years before her retirement.
Josephine is preceded in rest by her husband: Raymond E. Gurley; her parents: George and Mollie Tray Taylor Parker; four of her brothers: Walter Parker, George Parker, Franklin Parker, and Otis Parker; her four sisters: Irene Hammond, Lillian Laney, Ruth Balderson, and Mary Robertson; and three of her sons: William "Shorty" Garnett, Richard Todd Garnett, and John Wayne Garnett.
She is survived by one of her sons: Robert Nelson Garnett Jr.; one of her brothers: Roy Parker; five grandchildren: Troy Garnett, Allison Garnett Dean, Tiffany Garnett, Angela Garnett, and Todd Garnett; and seven great-grandchildren: Broedy Garnett, Annie Garnett, Noah Dean, Emma Dean, Luke Dean, Rileigh Dean, and Jonah Grubb.
The family will receive friends 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Friday, April 21, 2023 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666. A celebration of life will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with interment to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
