Born in Hampton,Virginia on February 14, 1938 Jimmy was one of seven children to Virgie and Fitzhugh Jones. He was a graduate of Hampton High School in the class of 1956. Shortly after graduation in 1956 Jimmy joined the United States Navy and held the rank and title of EFSR Electrician Mate Third Class where he earned the Good Conduct Medal. He went on to serve his country for three years before moving on to other employment opportunities. Jimmy would soon hold the title of Supervisor while he worked as an electrician for the Hampton Roads Sanitation District for 30 years and retired in the year 2000.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Verla S. Jones; his sons James Scott Jones of Newport News, Virginia and David R. Jones of San Diego, California; and his sister Peggy Koch of Hampton, Virginia.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his loving parents Fitzhugh Stanley Jones and Virgie Virginia Jones; his brothers Stanley Earl Jones, Fitzhugh Meredith Jones, and Fred C. Jones; his sisters Madaline Springfield and Virgie Virginia Madlock.
A funeral service for Jimmy will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. Following the funeral service will be a graveside committal at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, VA 23666.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) or a charity of your choice.
