Jack was an electrician at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. and retired in 1990 after 38 years of service. He served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corp and was a member of Buckroe Baptist Church, the Royal Stag, Twin Oaks and White Tail Hunt Clubs. He loved hunting, fishing, growing things, and just being outdoors.
Preceding him in rest are his parents, Jasper and Glennie Blevins; three sisters, Betty Coffee, Kay Carter and Stacy Blevins; and brother, Duncan Blevins.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 61 years, Jean Shelton Blevins; son, Douglas Blevins and wife, Connie of Hampton; daughters, Vicki Blevins Bridenstein and husband, Billy of Elkhart, IN, and Kathryn Blevins Garst and husband, Richard of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Jason Blevins and wife, Mindy, Rebekah Nayo and husband, Marcus, Richard Bridenstein, II, Jasper Garst, and Haley Garst; great-grandchildren, Trinity Blevins and Christian Nayo; and brother, David Blevins and wife, Sue of Hamlet, NC.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 9, 2010 from 6 to 7:30 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A service celebrating Jack’s life will be held Saturday, April 10 at 2 PM at the funeral home with Reverend Eddie Heath presiding. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 12 at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
