Jimmy retired from the City of Newport News after 20 years of proud service. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
Jimmy, affectionately known as Pop-Pop to his beloved grandson, Jeffery, had an immense love and dedication to his family that shone through everything he did. He enjoyed westerns and golf, riding his motorcycle with family on long rides and to special events, but nothing was more precious than the time he spent with his “Little Buddy”, his grandson, Jeffery.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine Ruth Topping; oldest son, Jeffrey Ross Topping; parents, James O. Topping, Sr. and Marshall Shelton; and sister, Frances T. Stephens. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Adrienne Topping; youngest son, Timothy Topping; grandson, Jeffery Skylar Topping; sisters-in-law, Judi Du Pont (Stevie) and Renee Wilson; brother-in-law, Stuart Wiant (Tracie); and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, December 14, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with a burial to be held at a later date.
