Born on August 23, 1940, in Newport News, VA, he has been a Hampton resident for more than 40 years. He worked in the Newport News Shipbuilding Co. for 43 years starting out in the Storekeepers Department and retiring from Surplus Sales Dept. in 2002.
He was a member of Hampton Roads Baptist Church in Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James K. Nettles, Sr. and Lelia W. Dobbins Nettles; and brother, Robert E. Nettles, Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Evelyn J. Nettles; daughter, Deborah N. Sebring; son-in-law that he considered to be a son, Jim Sebring; and three of the most wonderful grandchildren, Rachel Christine, Timothy David, and Hannah Elizabeth Sebring; three sisters, Josephine Byrum of Newport News, VA, Irene Gray and husband, William of Hampton, VA, and Hilda McGhee of Washington, NC; along with several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
The family would like to thank the people of Care South and Odyssey Hospice for all the care they gave during this time. A special thanks go to Chanda Lawhorn for all her special care.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, September 3 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, followed by a service at 7:00 PM conducted by Rev. Daniel Pruitt. Entombment will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 4 at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
