H. Stanley Chappell Jr. died January 26th, on his 99th Birthday. A lifelong resident of Newport News, he was a 1942 graduate of Newport News High School where he played in the marching band. He retired as a clerk from the C & O Railway in 1975, after 43 years of service.
He was a member of Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He was a former member of the Peninsula Symphony Orchestra, the Virginia Choral Society, The Peninsula Concert Band, and the Peninsula Retired Musicians Band. He was a docent at both the Mariners Museum and the Casemate Museum in Fort Monroe. He was a member of the Lions Club and played in the Lions Club Jug Band.
Survivors include his wife, June; Sister-in-Law, Sandra Jordan (Chuck) of Ohio; stepsons, Mark Craig and Bruce Craig (Barbara); nephews, Michael Bryan (Jean) and Joseph Boucher (Anita); granddaughters, Amanda Rainey (Heath), Alyson Liasse (Corey), Dana Parker, Lara Cullipher (Trent) and Tabitha Johnson; great-nephew, Timothy Bryan; Great-Grandchildren are, Levi, Johnathan, Shyan, Elizabeth, Livvy, and Raelynn. Great-great nieces and nephew, Katrina, Mary, and Timothy Bryan.
A funeral will be held at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, Friday, February 9, 2024, at 2:00 PM. There will be a visitation and reception held two hours prior to the funeral service, from 12:00-2:00 PM. The burial service will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church, Music Fund Chancel Choir, 1024 Harpersville Road, Newport News, Va. 23601.
