George Pritchard Ramsey

George P. Ramsey, 89, passed away February 4, 2011 in Hampton, Virginia. A native of Madison County, North Carolina, he was a long-time Peninsula resident. He was a retired agent of Life Insurance Co. of Georgia, where he received numerous awards. He was a loyal member of the Church of God. He was also an avid Model A enthusiast. George was a larger than life force, not only in character but in stature, that helped shaped his children as people and taught them the important things in life. No child could ask for a kinder and more loving daddy. Although this is a loss to all of us on earth, we know he is up in heaven rejoicing and will always be watching over us. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Melissa Ramsey, five sisters, and a daughter, Mickie Cook. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty J. Ramsey, his beloved children, Mary Dickerson, Johnnie Ramsey, Michael Ramsey, and Ken Settles, as well as ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and host of nieces, nephews and many other family members. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of George's life will be held Wednesday, February 9 at 1 p.m. at First Church of God, 617 Randolph Road, Newport News.
