Dorothy was a devoted mother and wife. She was the secretary/treasurer of Durrette Inc., a commercial fishing business, and a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Hampton.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Eldridge and Janie Cox Staples; husband, Floyd Evans Durrette; granddaughter, Kathryn Turner; and seven siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Cheryle Gumaer, Judy Jones (Dale) both of Hampton, Betty Pettingill (Wynn) of Idaho Falls, ID, and Teresa Colgan (Bob) of Scottsboro, AL; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen S. Walker of Newport News; and brother-in-law, Phillip Durrette of Costa Rica.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will begin at 11 am, Tuesday, January 15 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
