We are sad to announce the passing of Doris Moore Ennis Shea, age 97, who departed this life on January 15, 2024. Doris was a lifelong learner who recognized the importance and joy of education and personal growth. Her infectious laugh would always light up the room. She was viewed by many as the best listener, mentor, and confidant.
She was a lifelong Peninsula resident. After graduating from Hampton High School, she received a BA degree from Westhampton College,University of Richmond, and a Master of Education degree from the College of William & Mary.
Doris’ work as an educator was at Parkview Elementary School, LAFB Elementary School, Buckroe Jr. High School, Kecoughtan High School, and as a Hampton School System Administrator. She held leadership roles in both community and professional organizations: Hampton Public Health Advisory Board; Family Services and Travelers Aid; Virginia Education Association; and Hampton Retired Teachers Association.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, P. Guy Moore and Virgie B. Moore, her husband, Robert B. Shea and first husband, Jarvis G. Ennis. Surviving her are two sons; Jan Ennis (Faith Plass) of Phoenix, AZ; Dale Ennis (Kimberly Ennis) of Richmond, VA; granddaughters; Caroline Ennis and Sally Ennis, and her children through marriage; Lianne Shea of Marysville, WA; David Shea and Ali Wall (Tom) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren; Jeff Wall (Lindsey) of Las Vegas, NV; and Lauren Waikart (David) of Ottawa, and four great grandchildren.
Her last wish was to extend her thanks for the years of loving care given by the Chesapeake Staff and to express her appreciation for the friendship of her relatives and cherished friends through the years.
A celebration of her life will be held February 10, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Chesapeake. Inurnment will be private at Peninsula Memorial Park.
