“Dan” as he was known by family and friends was born on January 20, 1960, in Batavia, New York to John and Jean Richardson, who have preceded him in death.
Dan joined the United States Navy out of High School and was proud of his Military career. Some highlights of his career were serving on board the USS Nimitz, where he provided weather reports to pilots before they left for the Iranian hostage rescue mission. He also, served on board the USS John F. Kennedy, and the US Naval Polar Oceanography Center, where he forecasted the movements of the Ice Edge.
Military awards comprise of the US Navy Commendation Medal, the US Navy Achievement Medal and (5) Navy Good Conduct Medals.
After 20 years in the service, Dan retired as a First-Class Petty Officer in 1998 and made Virginia his home.
Dan is survived by his wife, Pam, of Newport News. His sons, Eric (Sarah) of Suffolk, VA, and Ryan (Jamie) of Hampton, VA. Dan was a wonderful grandfather to his one grandson, Tristan, whom he adored. His Daughter-in-Law Megan Richardson was a huge part of his life.
Dan grew up as the oldest of 4 children, Brian Richardson of Alabama, New York and Cindee (Fekry) Azer, of Bronx, New York are surviving siblings, their brother Scot died in July of 2012. He had several nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends can pay respects at the Fort Monroe Community Center 100 Stilwell Drive once scheduled.
Burial will take place at Albert G Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia once scheduling has been completed.
