After serving his country for three years in the U.S. Marines in the late 1940’s, he changed branches of service and retired from the U.S. Air Force after twenty years of service. He fought in the Korean Conflict. During his military career, he was awarded several citations including the WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, and several Good Conduct citations.
After retiring from the military, he worked for the Newport News Shipyard as a security guard for 20 years and retired in 1993.
Preceding him in rest is his wife, Wilma Irene Rose Campbell. Surviving members of his family include his son, Eddie E. Campbell and wife, Lisa M.; grandchildren, Andrew, Philip and Kyla Campbell; step-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Nicholas and Brandon Williams; great grandson, Jeremiah “JR” Williams, Jr.; brother, Bobby Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, at Parklawn – Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Clayton's life will be held Friday, January 13, at 10:00 AM, at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
