Clarence "Ed" Edward Yarbrough, of Yorktown, Virginia died Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Northampton Convalescent Home in Hampton. He was a native of Paducah, Kentucky and served with the U.S. Army in the Pacific during World War II. He operated harbor craft in the Philippines and New Guinea and in Japan during post-war occupation. Following the war he and his wife married and relocated to Racine, Wisconsin where he worked as a Quality Control Supervisor for the J. I. Case Company. After retirement, Ed and his wife moved to Memphis Tennessee to care for her mother. In 1996 they relocated to Yorktown. Ed and Jeanette attended Northside Christian Church in Yorktown. Ed was a quiet man who worked diligently throughout his life, devoted to his family. He was a gifted mechanic who could fix absolutely anything and designed machine parts on the job as needed in the quality control arena. He was an able but casual golfer for many decades. He will be missed very much by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Yarbrough; his mother, Myrtle Yarbrough; sister, Dorothy Matthews; infant son, Charles Edward; and infant grandson, Thomas Major.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eleanor “Jeanette” Yarbrough, of Yorktown; daughter, Nancy McPhail and husband Sam of Newport News; daughter, Patricia Desmarais of Yorktown; grandson, Nathan Major and wife Julianne; and great-grandsons, Kolton, Simon and Logan, all of Aumsville Oregon.
The family wishes to thank Riverside Hospice for compassionate and excellent care to Ed during the last year of his life. They would also like to thank the Northampton Convalescent Home for the gracious care that he received from all of their staff.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 15 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a celebration of Ed's life to begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be on Monday, October 17 at 3:00 p.m. in Parklawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Northside Christian Church or to Riverside Hospice.
