Ariel Mae Newman

She is preceded in death by her father, Basil Porter; stepmother, Esther Porter; and half-brother, Desmond Lawrence. She is survived by her mother, Lucille Wright; sister, Norma "Brenda" Porter; and half siblings: Jason, Jackie, Claudette, Donald, Robert, and Lavern. She is also survived by her former spouse, Donald Newman; their two children, Dione Newman and Greg Newman (Jennifer); and granddaughter, Eden.

Ariel, or "Pearl", as family fondly called her, was born on November 30, 1952, to Lucille and Basil Porter in the rural district of Porter's Mountain, in Westmoreland, Jamaica. From her school age years until adulthood, she lived in Birmingham, England until she married and relocated with her husband to Hampton, Virginia. Ariel was a woman of strong faith and was an active member of the Victoria Congregation of Jevohah's Witnesses. She retired in 2017 from APAC Customer Services, Inc. after 22 exceptional years of service. She was a devoted and loving mother, wife, sister, and friend. She loved to laugh, loved her family, and took a genuine interest in people. Ariel will be remembered as a unique, caring, and beautiful spirit and she will be greatly missed by so many.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va 23666. A private memorial service in Ariel's honor will be held via Zoom on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Family and friends will be notified.
