Annie Louise Patterson Gardner departed this life on February 19, 2011, at the age of 84, with her children by her bedside. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Gardner, Jr. her parents, Charlie and Dolly Patterson, a brother, Charlie (Sonny) Patterson and a sister, Gertrude Glass.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, daughter, Virginia Louise (Ginny) and her husband, Bill Stallings; son, Clyde and his wife Paige, two grandchildren, Megan Louise and Trevor Lee Stallings. She is also survived by her sisters Elizabeth (Tommy) Goodman, Polly Oakes, Phyllis Deane, Lucille (Earl) Morris, Hazel Maxey, Joyce (Ernie) Rodgers, Jane (Stu) Pitts and brothers Hilton (Carolyn) Patterson and Randy Patterson. Annie graduated from Scottsville High School in 1943 and then earned her degree in Education from Mary Washington College in 1947. She taught at Hampton High School from 1950-1960.
Annie worked as President of Gardner’s Trailer Court Inc. from 1986 until present. Annie enjoyed cooking, travelling, gardening, reading and playing bridge. Annie was a past member of the York County chapter of the AAUW and was an active part of her church community at Providence United Methodist Church in Dare, VA until her health began to decline. “Granny” devoted her time and love to her two grandchildren whom she cherished more than anything.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Chesapeake Retirement Community, for their dedicated and loving care of Annie. Thank you also to the staff of Riverside Regional Medical Center for caring and providing comfort for her. Thank you also to everyone for their prayers and words of comfort.
In lieu of flower the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6350 Center Dr Ste 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Parklawn – Wood Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m.. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
