Ann was born January 28, 1946 in Alexandria, Virginia, and grew up in Manassas, where she graduated from Osbourn High School in 1964. She received her bachelor's degree from Radford College in 1968, and her master's degree from Troy State University in 1980.
The daughter of educators, Ann taught throughout the United States and in Europe while her husband, Dan, was in the U.S. Army. During her 41-year career, Ann was recognized as Teacher of the Year twice in Hampton, and achieved many certifications and distinctions.
Ann was predeceased by her parents, James J. and Mary Hope Leo, of Manassas. She is survived by her husband of almost 47 years, Daniel L. Toothman of Newport News, daughters Lora Toothman (Joshua Cooley) of Richmond, and Mary Toothman (Philip Murphy) of Goleta, California, her sister M. Robbie Arnold (Richard) of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, sister-in-law Ka Toothman Guinn (Michael) of Harrisonburg, and three nephews and their families.
A celebration of Ann's life will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Northampton Presbyterian Church, 1217 Todds Lane, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
In lieu of flowers, Ann's family requests donations be made in her memory to Northampton Presbyterian Church or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38148-0142.
