He was born on October 5, 1939 in Galveston, TX to Albert F. Franks Sr. and Lillian Franks. He was a dedicated, lifetime U.S. Air Force veteran who served tours in Japan, England, and various locations throughout the Southeast United States. While stationed in Japan, he met the love of his life, Fumiko Imai.
After retiring from the USAF as a Chief Master Sergeant, Albert worked in Civil Service at Langley Air Force Based with the 480th Intelligence Wing, which was the same unit he worked with while serving in the Air Force at Langley, until his final retirement in 2007. He served the federal government for a total of 49 years.
Albert and his wife travelled all over the world, mostly on cruise ships, visiting Europe, Australia, the Far East, and Central America. Albert also enjoyed bowling in various leagues and coaching youth baseball with the Phillips Athletic Association and Phoebus Little and Pony Leagues. He was a master woodworker who created beautiful furniture and works of wooden art for family and friends.
He is preceded in rest by his wife, Fumiko Imai Franks; and his parents, Albert F. Franks Sr. and Lillian Franks. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Jernigan (Bill); son, Gary Franks (Ronda); four grandchildren: Crystal Golden (Paul), Jacob Franks; Madison Robinson (Stephen); and Drew Franks; one great-grandchild, Everett Robinson; brother, Paul Franks; and two sisters: Lana Moore and Mary Waller.
A celebration of life service for Albert will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia. An inurnment with military honors to follow the service will take place at Parklawn Memorial Park.
