Rufus was born in Hico, Tx where he went to school until he was 8 yrs old. He then moved to Kennedale, Tx where continued school and played football. In 1957, at 18 yrs old he joined the Marines and was medically discharged shortly after boot camp. He then worked for his father as a carpenter and continued that trend for the rest of his life. At age 20 Rufus began attending rodeos all over Texas and other states with his brother, where he rode bulls - though he never won he always gave it his all.
Rufus married Billie on January 31st 1960 in Colleyville TX and they were married for 62 years. He loved her more than she will ever know. They had 4 children and many many grandkids. In 2001 he bought the farm in Hamilton, Tx where he lived out his life.
Rufus was an unforgettable character - never meeting a stranger - walking to the end of earth for his kids and grandkids. He loved God deeply and could quote passages from the Bible word for word. He was the sweetest man, but also not one to mess with. He will be deeply missed by the ones that knew him well.
His memory will live on forever with those who love him most.
Always and forever THE GREATEST MAN WE EVER KNEW
