Norene Ella Gaskamp Gebert passed away suddenly at her home in Lamkin Texas on Saturday March 1st. Funeral services have been set for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday March 4, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Hamilton. Visitation will be Monday, March 3, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Burial will be in the Hemmeline Cemetery near Gatesville. Norene was born near Mosheim Texas on February 18, 1931 to August Gaskamp and Mary Symank Gaskamp. She married Adolph Gebert Jr. on December 4, 1949 and together they owned and operated Sonny’s TV in Freeport and Lake Jackson and later Videotronics in Clute Texas. After their retirement in 1988 they moved to Lamkin Texas where Sonny and Norene started a pecan orchard business. Sonny operated his business until the time of his passing and then Norene continued to operate it until the time of her death.
Norene was an active person who loved to play “42” dominos at the Senior Citizens Center in Gustine with her domino buddies. She would participate in regular play there every Wednesday and would also play in 42 tournaments held there. She won the 2009 championship 42 tournament at the Gustine homecoming. In the early 90s Norene was affectionately known as the “Peach Lady”. She sold peaches at the peach stand in Lamkin and Stephenville where she loved visiting and meeting with many people. She enjoyed traveling with her girls and has been to Alaska, London, Paris and a Cruise for her 80th birthday. She would also travel with her brother Herbert to the Casinos in Oklahoma and give the quarter slot machines a fit. Norene was a very out-going person and never met a stranger.
Norene was proceeded in death by her husband Adolph “Sonny” Gebert, parents August and Mary and brothers Lonnie and Henry Gaskamp. She is survived by her brother Herbert Gaskamp of Moshiem Texas; daughter Sandra Kay McNeely and husband David of Georgetown; daughter Deborah Lynn Garland and husband Walter of Angleton; daughter Penny Elaine Mican and husband Dennis of Sweeny; grand-children Sean McNeely, Shannon Beadle, Amber Sunday, Andrea Seiler and Shellan Garland and great-grandchildren Macy and Presley McNeely and Kyle Sunday.
