Funeral Services for Josie Inez Goerdel will be held on Saturday December 03, 2011 at Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton. Burial to follow at St. Johns Cemetery in Priddy, Texas, officiating services will be Pastor Don Kingman. Visitation will be held Friday evening, December 02, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton, Texas.
Josie passed away November 30, 2011 at the Dove Hill nursing home.
She was born on November 04, 1920 to Dewey Taylor and Josie (Hopper) Swindle, in Mills County, Texas. She married Edmund Goerdel on June 29th 1939 in Eola, Texas. Josie was raised a Baptist, then later she became an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Priddy, where she was confirmed and attended for many years. Josie began attending Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville which became her church for several years afterward. Josie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing; loved to dance and listen to music but above all of this, she loved spending time with family and friends. She adored children and took many under her wing to care for as her own.
Josie is survived by a son; Leslie Goerdel of Thorndale, Texas; 2 daughters, Brenda Lucas of Pottsville, Carol Jones and husband Jeff of Lamkin, Texas; also a special friend; Charles Schulz. 13 grandchildren; Leslie Ann Zuehlke, Brent Goerdel, Beverly Chevalier, Robert Young, Eldon Gregory, Evelyn Cooper, Kathy Hunter, Eddie Collins, Kristi Townley, Kelly Collins, Brandon Jones, Brian Jones, LeAnn Limmer; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters; Winnie Cunningham and Minnie Young, a brother-in-law; Bruno Goerdel; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Dewey and Josie Swindle, her husband; Edmund Goerdel; a daughter, Lois Collins, 2 granddaughters; Sharon SoRelle, Karen Denise Goerdel, 1 grandson; Kyle Collins, 1 great-grandchild; Dusty Walther, a daughter-in-law; Barbara Goerdel and 2 son-in-laws; Forest Young, Milton Lucas, and a sister; Frankie Dean Robertson.
