Jason (Jake) was born Dec. 10, 1971, in Hammond, Louisiana, to James W. and Martha Oustad Rice.
He graduated from Hico High School in 1990 and received an education degree from Tarleton State University. He was a coach at Pittsburgh High School and later worked as a surveyor and tile man.
A high school standout in both sports and music, he was chosen for the Oil Bowl in Wichita Falls and also advanced to state with his trumpet solos. He was kind-hearted, creative and loved his family fiercely.
He was a veteran, having served in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Jamie Weaver.
Survivors include his children, Jameson Rice and fiancé Sydney of Proctor and Marlee Rice; siblings Zel Rice of Tickfaw, Louisiana, Maria Weaver of Hamilton, Lyn Rice and wife Connie of Zephyr, Patti Glen and husband David of Montgomery, Alabama; his children’s mom, Shelli Rice Lee; nieces and nephews Rhonda Hatfield, Amanda Bundick, Tim Weaver, Tam Ryan, Brian Rice, Ryan Rice, Crystal Bellows, Ashleigh Glen, Natalie Ortiz-Lovince, Ethan Glen and Stephen Glen; and many cousins.
