Zora Zver

Surrounded by love Zora Zver, passed away peacefully on December 18th, at the age of 91, after a long and well lived life. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, the late Ivan, her soulmate of 60 years, and her cherished daughter, the late Anne Moravac. Zora leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Diane and Edward Vilaca and her son- in-law Zlatko Moravac. She was the admired Baba of Leslie (Michael) Busija, Jessica (Franco) DiGiovanni, Marissa & Julianna Vilaca. Zora’s memories will be cherished by her great-grandaughters Michaela, Madeline, Gabriella, Misha & Emilia. Predeceased by her parents Janko & Ljuba Mihalic. Dear Sister of Cvita (late Sabo) Brahovic, Milka Galovic, the late Branko (Barbara) Mihalic, the late Josip (Kata) Mihalic and Blaz (Dragica) Mihalic. Reunited with her predeceased in-laws and niece. Forever in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives in Croatia and Canada.

As a brave young woman Zora came to Canada from Croatia to lay the foundation for her entire family. She was proudly the matriarch of her family and she was affectionately referred to as an honourary “Baba” by many. She devoted herself wholeheartedly not only to her husband, daughters, and granddaughters but also to her extended family and many friends.

Zora always fostered deep connections and embraced everyone with warmth and honesty. Always generous with her time, she was quick to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She balanced a strong work ethic with a zest for life, finding joy in simple pleasures like sharing coffee with her loving husband or enjoying her favourite activities such as singing, playing cards or watching soap operas. She was a wonderful baker and best known for her incredible apple strudel made lovingly with the apples from the backyard tree.

A special thank you to the staff at Madison Village long-term care facility for their exceptional care and kindness making Zora a part of their family. Public visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King St East, Sunday December 22 from 3pm-7pm with Rosary at 6:30pm. Funeral mass on Monday December 23rd at Holy Cross Church at 10am, interment to follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
