Zofia Burghardt

It is with saddened hearts we announce the unexpected passing of our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and daughter. On July 23, 2013, peacefully surrounded by the love and prayer of her devoted family at the Hamilton General Hospital, at the age of 58, Zofia was taken into heaven and the waiting arms of her father Antoni and her brother Janusz Sekula. Beloved wife of Janusz for 38 years. Loving mother to Yvonne Burghardt-McEwan (Greg McEwan) and Julia Burghardt (Bryan Silva). Babcia to her precious Karina. Cherished daughter of Stefania and sister to Andrew Sekula. Zofia was a dear and devoted aunt, niece, sister-in-law, cousin, godmother and friend. Renowned for her excellent cooking, a selfless hard working woman full of love, faith and always taking care of others before herself. She loved her cottage, traveling to Cuba, and never missed an episode of Dancing with the Stars. She lived to cook and to bake for everyone. She was hardworking and dedicated, when she was working at Barton Meat Products or Kustra’s Deli. After her retirement Zofia realized her dream of caring for her precious granddaughter Karina. She will forever live on in the hearts of everyone her life has touched. A heartfelt thank you to the Paramedics, Firemen, Police, the staff at in the Emergency Room, the 4th Floor CCU and all the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital. A sincere thank you to in-laws Paul and Maria Boruta, and niece Dorothy Boruta for their exceptional care and kindness shown to Zofia and our family during this difficult time. Visitation will be held at the Markey Dermody Funeral Home 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9pm. Rosary on Friday at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Stanislaus Polish Church, (Barton at St Olga) on Saturday July 27, 2013 at 9am. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery to follow. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
