Suddenly at home, Yurij found peace with his maker. Beloved and cherished son of Vladimir and Luba (nee Maksym). Loving brother of Oleksander and Christina. Treasured grandson of Pelagia Maksym, loved nephew of Orest Maksym (Cynthia) and dear cousin of John and Natalie. Yurij will be sadly missed by many close family members, Godparents Mykola Maskulka and Mary Procyszyn and numerous friends. Yurij was an accomplished musician on the bandura and piano. He was a teacher both of music and physics, obtaining both degrees at McMaster University. He was an assistant conductor with the Canadian Bandurist Capella, as well as the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus in the U.S.A. His first love in life was his music. He headed music camps in London, Ontario and Emlenton, Pennsylvania over the last five years. He leaves behind many friends from the Capellas and summer music camps where he was well respected and treasured. Yurij was a true gem. A pure, gentle soul with a heart of gold, who was kind, humble, selfless, principled, honest, religious, loving and considerate and was loved beyond words. Visitation at MARKEYDERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth), on Saturday, April 25th from 5-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Sunday, April 26th at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 855 Barton St. East from 5-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7 p.m. where funeral Service will be held on Monday April 27, 2015 at 10 a.m. Interment St. Volodymyr Cemetery, Oakville. Donations may be made to the Canadian Bandurist Capella or Ukrainian Social Service Hamilton in memory of Yurij.
