Patrick William Slattery

It is with very heavy hearts, that we announce the peaceful passing of Patrick Slattery on Monday, March 21, 2022 at the Hamilton General Hospital in his 88th year. Predeceased by his wife, Catherine in 1998.

Loving father to Jack, Anne Lepore (John), David (Melissa) and Karen. Proud Papa to his grandchildren Jimmy (Catherine), Michelle (Joe), Patrick (Hanifa), Summer, Nolan, and Maia. Pat was predeceased by his parents Patrick and Anne Slattery, and his siblings Thomas, Bridie, Maryann, Christina, Anne and survived by his brother Michael (Eileen) and sister-in-law Emily. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

Pat came to Canada from Tynagh, County Galway, Ireland in 1956, and set out to start a new life. Pat devoted his life to his family, his friends and his faith. His strong work ethic led him to a rewarding career at Stelco for over 35 years, making many lasting friendships along the way. Pat’s greatest work followed his retirement, when he fully embraced being an ever present and loving grandfather to his six grandchildren. Whether it was in the stands at a basketball game, driving to a university exam or helping fix things around the house, Papa Pat was always there. A helping hand was only ever a phone call away.

Pat regularly attended church every Sunday at Sacred Heart Parish, and he enjoyed dinner table debates on politics and current affairs. He will be especially missed by his greatest companion, his dog Charlie.

Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday from 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Parish, 19 Viewpoint Avenue, Hamilton on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 10:30 am. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
