At her side was her husband of 40+ years John, children Lauren, Taylor, and Connor, sisters Barbara, Diana, and Kathy and niece Amy.
She was born to the late Russell and Eileen Dobson, on August 28, 1958, in Montréal, Quebec. Pat graduated from Westmount Highschool in 1976 and received her nursing degree, before enlisting in the then-amalgamated Canadian Armed Forces. After leaving the forces she worked as an RPN for thirty years, working over a decade at the then-Henderson Hospital, and then Macassa Lodge.
She married John Burns in Sept. 1982, at Gage Park in the Rose Garden, and they spent time together in Calgary and Montréal before settling down on the mountain in Hamilton. Pat is survived by all her children: Lauren, Taylor, and Connor, as well as her husband, and close confidante mother-in-law June; her sisters: Nora, Kathy, Eileen, Diana, and best friend Barbara. She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews, and brothers-in-law.
Pat was fun, unflinching, clever and kind. She loved to dance, and the sound of her radio is a sorely missed staple of the kitchen. Pat also openly despised bullies, and never shied from calling out such behaviour whenever and wherever she saw it. While some found her honesty abrasive, Pat believed in making herself heard and never backed down from a fight. A good time with Pat was authentic, and she made sure everyone got to have a say. As an avid film buff, she was drawn to works that explored human relationships and the darker realities of life, amidst documentaries ranging from Salvador Dali to birds of the world and cheetahs; her taste was eclectic, and she loved to learn.
When meeting someone new she’d pull out her favourite joke as a litmus test; “How do you get a dog to quit humping your leg?”
